98 SE Sound & Network Driver For Gateway

  • 0

I have a gateway E-3400 Desktop computer that I was reloading windows 98 SE back onto and I cannot seem to find the drivers for the sound or network.

I’ve been to gateway’s site and it’s says it’s some sort of professional division of some sort? Any ideas of where I could find any compatible drivers?

MSI K8N Neo
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.21ghz
1.5GB DDR 3200
nVidia N6600 256mb video
Segate 500 gig sata
NEC ND-3500AG DVD R/RW

  1. You need to determine the motherboard, then search for the drivers. It appears your system has the “Corfu 2” board…here’s the drivers list:

  2. I googled the part number along with “gateway.com” to try to find a gateway page. The results gave the new part number which I used to search on their support page.
So Jam’s link is correct for that motherboard. There are several part numbers using the same motherboard.

I don’t know why they don’t have the 3com drivers. It could be 98 already had native support for them so gateway didn’t list any. But you should be able to use the ones in the 3com link if you need them.

  3. Well after searching a bit I found this on the interent:

    http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread….

followed the instructions by removing the reg keys and removed the network adapter in device manager.

All works well now connects to the internet.

Here is what I did, c/p from link above.

On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK.

In Registry Editor, expand the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

Right-click Winsock, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu that appears.

    The following message appears:

Are you sure you want to delete this key?
    Click Yes.

Follow steps 6 through 8 to remove the following registry subkeys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RemoteAccess\Authentication\SMM_Files
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\AFVXD
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\DHCP
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\Winsock
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\Winsock2
    Quit Registry Editor.

    Restart the computer.
