Solved Windows update is preventing my pc from booting up.

Specs: Windows 7, 2gb
Windows update is not working as it should and is preventing my netbook PC from booting. I recently upgraded my Acer 722 to windows 8 and it has been working great recently. However, I installed a printer driver software yesterday and was prompted to restart the pc after installation. I clicked restart and when starting up again the 'configuring windows update' message appeared. After 5 minutes another message appeared: 'update failure, reverting changes'. This message stayed for an hour and the the computer randomly restarted itself. It was then back to the 'configuring updates ' message followed by the same 'reverting changes' message. This cycle repeats itself over and over again and the pc won't boot.
I tried to start in safe mode by using the f8 key. But it didnt work. I think it is because its a dual boot with Vista also available . Anyone got any ideas to get it running again.

I tried restore points but the new installation of windows 8 doesnt seem to have restore points configured by default.

A bit of a long shot but the following procedure can unstick things when they get into a loop:
Turn off laptop and disconnect from domestic power. Remove main laptop battery. Finally hold the power off/on button down for about 20 seconds. Re-assemble, cross fingers and hope.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks. I have tried that. They call it a capacitor discharge I believe.I am aware of that procedure and it was the first thing I tried. Unfortunately m it didnt solve it.

With Win 8 getting to Safe Mode is a bit different:

This is about dual boot situations:

As you probably know there are recovery options in Windows 8 if you can make it to safe mode:

I managed to solve it. I researched how to start windows 8 in safe mode. I managed to do that and once booted up in safe mode I removed all of the most recently installed updates. Once these were all deleted I tried restarting the netbook and it booted up normally. I have had no problems since. It is no longer stuck in a loop and is working great.

Thanks for input.
