Windows doesn't boot after changes in msconfig

February 22, 2017 at 07:16:31
Specs: Windows 8.1
I changed the number of processor in the msconfig boot settings (YES, IM STUPID) and now windows won't boot under any mode. That's everything what I know about the situation and also have no idea what to do.

Folk who have hit this issue usually managed to get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt if they kept trying. If you make it then type msconfig, go to Advanced Settings and Un-check the settings you made.

If the reason you went there is because you've read that stuff about MS getting it wrong then it's a myth.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Interesting, post a tutorial to supposedly fix something which is not broken and many people will follow it and screw everything up that was working....

What you mean by not booting? I tried this on a VM win8.1 and it took some considerable time to boot up, but it succeeded.

What, exactly, happens? As sluc says, the setting the CPU count shouldn't prevent booting. If you set the CPU count to more than the PC has, you get full core usage, as if you never set anything. If you set the CPU count lower than what actually exists, Windows should run slower but otherwise as it should.

I do not how to do this in laptop, but if you are using a desktop, maybe you can open your desktop case, and find the battery for motherboard, and take it down. Then the bios settings will be restore.

jerfrank: That will not help, this is within Windows that the problem is.
