Hello All,
I know I can find the answers elsewhere but...
Is Windows 8.1 a free update to, and compatible with, Windows 8 and 8 Pro, like a Service Pack? Or is it a separate Operating System which must be purchased?

Thank you for your time,
-Mike

It will be a free update. But it will also be available to purchase for those who don't own Windows 8. You will be able to upgrade Windows 8 (just like a Service Pack) but earlier versions will require a new install.

You have to get it from the Windows Store (free app) - rather than normal "Windows Updates". In my opinion you give it at least two weeks after the release date for them to get the bugs out of it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

That certainly confirms my experience with the preview that this is a must-have upgrade for Windows 8 users. I'm excited! :)
