windows 8 will not let me do anything as an administrator.

March 14, 2013 at 15:38:08
Specs: Windows 64
Everytime I try to refresh or restore my computer or remove an unwanted program it says "are you sure" but you can only press no. Then it says type administrator password but there is no way to type it. I have spent over 10 hours trying to figure this out. I am willing to wipe everything out and start again but I cannot do that unless I am an administrator.

Have you tried, or are you unable to, log in as administrator?
Check to see what type of user you currently are..
Right click on the bottom of the screen and click on the 'All apps' button.
Find and select 'Control Panel'
Scroll down to 'User Accounts'
It probably says Your Name, Local Account, Standard, try 'Change your account type' option and change it from standard to administrator. It's possible that it will not let you do this, if so then do the following.

Go back to the control panel.
Select 'Administrative Tools'
then 'Computer Management'
pick 'Local Users and Groups' from the list on the left.
then 'Users'
You will probably see
Administrator
Guest
Your Name
Right click on your name and select properties.
then the 'Member Of' tab
Click Add
Type Administrators in the box and then click OK and OK again.

Close everything down, restart and log back in.
You should now have full administrator rights.

Is this an OEM computer or an upgrade to Windows 8 ?

Who created the user accounts ?
