First thing to try (because it's quick and easy) is to discharge the motherboard. Turn off and disconnect power, remove battery if it's a laptop, then hold the Power Off/On button down for at least 20 seconds. If it is still stuck after reassembly please provide us with the make and model number of your computer.

[Just for info before uninstalling any AV or firewall disable it. Many have a purpose made uninstall program on their websites].

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Donno how I did it, but I fixed it. I powered off, then tried unscrewing the entire bottom of the laptop, but it wouldn't open and I didn't want to force it as his was how my last laptop died an untimely death. Then I unscrewed the little panel and lifted out what was, I think, the memory card. Reset it, rebooted the laptop with the power button and it fell back onto some sort of reset/repair mode... I have to reinstall all my programs now, but at least my data is saved. Maybe this info will help someone else. Thanks everyone for helping. :)

That does sound like the memory (RAM) card. If you have to do the same again before popping the RAM stick back in, clean its edge connector with a soft pencil eraser. Virtually invisible oxide can cause issues and probably removal and inserting cleaned it off.

Glad to hear it's fixed and thanks for letting us know.
