I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I have a sound icon with an "X" telling me that the Audio Service is not running. Restarting the PC, installing drivers, starting the audio service and reinstalling Windows 8 did not work. Can you suggest me a fix?

In Device Manager do you have a Yellow exclamation mark against any entries ?

If so you will ned drivers, obviously W8 is at least 6 months away from release, so will have to try Windows 7 drivers either 32bit or 64bit depending on what version of W8 you have installed.

The drivers are available from Dell Support for your country....

What sound driver is installed by default ? It may be generic and therefore not correct !
