April 5, 2015 at 21:40:19
Specs: Windows 8, 12 GB
Hi, Since I purchased my desktop computer last year. It has always been freezing. Whether on internet ,or browsing my folders. I have windows 8, I have not updated to 8.1 yet (is this necessary?)I did a SFC scan after checking online (not too computer saavy), and this is the report that I got . It did not let me post the full thing. So I will try and cut and paste the parts that look like a problem .

Also to add , after i did the SFC scan. I noticed my recycle bin was full and as a habit I emptied it, and then noticed that it said it deleted 3130 files. Is it normal for sfc scan to delete files? Could it be that it replaced damaged files , and deleted the un-needed files? I just hope it didnt delete any important files I had.

I have 2 computers. 1 is this HP envy desktop, and one is a hp touch laptop, and both freeze /hang very badly and very often , it makes my job 100x harder using these 2 computers that always freeze up. I have been trying for months to fix them and nothing works. I dont know if its an HP problem, or an operating system problem. I think its a problem with windows 8 , because I had many hp computers before and never had any problems previously on different operating systems.

Lets have a look to see if anything is happening, from this perspective.
This is usually the best starting point.

Here are the first 2 steps, there will be more steps needed after I see the results of these logs.

Run them in this order.

Step 1: Run AdwCleaner
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivi...
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/adwclean...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
Author's site
http://general-changelog-team.fr/en...
Tutorial
http://general-changelog-team.fr/en...
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Clean.
Confirm each time with Ok.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please Copy & Paste the contents of that logfile with your next answer.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Step 2: Run Junkware Removal Tool
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Securi...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
http://thisisudax.org/
http://thisisudax.blogspot.com.au/2...
Download Junkware Removal Tool onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
Warning! Once the scan is complete JRT will shut down your browser with NO warning.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Temporarily disable your antivirus and any antispyware real time protection before performing a scan.
Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/for...
http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7/8, right-click JRT and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved onto your Desktop and will automatically open.
Copy and Paste the contents of the JRT.txt log please.

Johnw - I will try this tonight or tomorrow, But I don't think this is a junkware or malware situation. This is because, both my hp desktop and hp laptop computer were like this right out of the box ! Brand new purchased last year ,since day one they were both like this. I think its a problem with the operating system or a bad or corrupt file.

sluc, Good point, I will try this and respond as soon as I can.

Thanks for the quick replies !

I think it is just an unlucky coincidence that two computers had these freeze ups. Quite a lot of folk are now using Windows 8 (including me) and we have seen no widespread reports about freeze up issues on here. I've had none, either before or after the upgrade to Win 8.1.

Good idea to explore the malware/virus possibility first, if only to exclude it from the list of possibilities. It is the most common cause of screw ups.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I appreciate all of your help. Sorry but I am not home so I cannot try the above yet on my hp desktop.

However, I am using my hp laptop right now, which is experiencing the EXACT same problems as my desktop. The specs are different though. Its windows 8.1 ( I updated it thinking that was the problem, and when I found out it didn't make a difference, I didn't bother updating my desktop) ,this laptop is 4gb ram, unlike the 12gb for desktop.

This is the SFC scan report below. The important parts of it. (It looks very similar to my desktop scan!) I will go ahead and try the adwcleaner and junkware removal tool and I will post the results here shortly.

Next step.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
If we have to run Farbar more than once, refer this SS.
http://i.imgur.com/yUxNw0j.gif
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the Desktop.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt).
The logs are large, upload them using this, or upload to a site of your choosing. No account needed. Give us the links please.

Thanks Bruce, shall get this side of things done, before moving onto the next step.

Copy & Paste the text below ( starting closeprocesses: ), save it into Notepad on your Desktop & name it fixlist.txt
NOTE: It is important that Notepad is used. The fix will not work if Word or some other program is used.
NOTE: It is important that both files, FRST/FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

We now have the situation where SFC was unable to repair some files & CHKDSK didn't find any to repair.

BlueSoleilCS is a problem, I partially dealt with some of it's files in fixlist.

Are you still getting freezing?

If so, uninstall BlueSoleilCS using this 2 step uninstaller.
Then test for freezing.

Still freezing.

Also, since day one, both my laptop and my desktop get "warning unresponsive script" on mozilla and internet explorer. Could that be any issue?

I will definately use your help with my desktop later on (thanks for all of your help by the way) , but since I use my laptop more, I started with this first.

What is bluesoleil ? i read on google something to do with bluetooth applications. Sorry not too computer saavy.

Should I remove it ?

Forgive me if John has already covered this but when you ran SFC did you use one of the methods here?:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...

I notice that it says you sometimes have to run sfc more than once to sort things out.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

If you are still getting freezing after doing the above.

1: Upload a SS ( screenshot ) using Snipping Tool, of Device Manager please.

2: After posting the SS link, do a clean boot & test.

If you are still getting freezing after doing the above.

1: Upload a SS ( screenshot ) using Snipping Tool, of Device Manager please.

2: After posting the SS link, do a clean boot & test.

Are there any error reports in the Event Viewer that show up at the exact time of these freezes? Be aware that event errors themselves are not rare (minor Windows or Program bugs) which is why the exact time is important. What they say (if any) might tell us something. To get to Event Viewer right click the Windows icon at the very bottom left in the taskbar. The place to look is Windows logs > Application or System.

A few other thoughts:

Have you only one Anti-Virus program running in the background at the same time - more than one can cause conflictions.

If you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and select Task Manger you will be presented with various tabs. Under the Startup tab you could first take a note of all settings (enabled/disabled) then try disabling items. If with something disabled the freezing stops after restart then at least you would know what program is having problems.

I guess it is possible this is a hardware issue but as chkdsk found nothing about the only other thing that readily comes to mind is faulty RAM. There is a free tester here:
http://www.memtest86.com/
From the features list it appears to support 64 bit computers.

[Good luck - will be AWOL for a few days]

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I used wise program uninstaller as recommended. I searched BlueSoleilCS.exe and the only thing that came up was Ralink bluetooth stack64 and I searched on google and it seems to be the same thing, so hopefully I uninstalled the correct thing.

Will let you know if I see any difference shortly.

Also, in startup tab, they are all enabled, catalyst control center, hp accelerometer, hp coolsense, hp message service (2), ituneshelper, realtek hd audio manager, synaptics touchpad. startup impact, the only ones that are"high" are cataliyst and hp coolsense.

In event viewer, there are a bunch of BlueSoleil errors. Im not sure if those are the same times as the freezes.

I just uninstalled bluesoleil, so I will let you know what happens, then I will check ram if needed

Here is the fix for the SFC problem. Skip the first SFC scan, as you have already done it.

GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1
http://www.sysnative.com/forums/win...
It has come to our attention at there has been a recent explosion of people reporting corruptions with the CNBJ2530.DPB file in Windows 8 and 8.1.

1: Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your DesktopIf your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
2: Save any open documents and close all open windows.
3: Double click on SFCFix.exe to open it (runtime is approximately 15 minutes).
4: Follow all on screen instructions and upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.

If SFCFix has successfully repaired the corruption, the logfile will contain the following line:
FIXED: Performed DISM repair on file Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB of version 6.3.9600.16384.
The version number will change depending on the version of Windows 8 you are running, but that line signifies that the issue has been successfully repaired.

Upload the complete logfile which opens on exit, using Zippy.

Testing time again.

"When trying to put back to regular mode. I went to ms config"

Maybe it doesn't matter.

Extract from this link.

The Msconfig Startup Selection Reverts from Normal to Selective Startup
http://www.tipsdotcom.com/windows-8...
"Many people report that they are stuck in selective startup and that they cannot get back in normal startup mode. This isn’t necessarily a problem, and can be caused by installing certain programs. For instance, internet security programs or antivirus programs can add their own Windows services or make changes in existing Windows services. This “deviation” from the “normal” status of services sometimes triggers Windows MSConfig to go in selective startup mode and has people struggling to get back to normal mode."
The symptom of this is that when you select “normal mode”, MSConfig automatically reverts back to selective mode. As long as your computer starts fine, without any startup error messages, you don’t need to worry about this."

Hi John, Sorry it was hectic the last few days.

I ran wise registry cleaner again and it had errors, I cleaned them, then I ran it again and it says clean registry. How often do you advise to run this program?

I will try the ram checker as well.

Thankyou

"How often do you advise to run this program?"
Only if you have a reason, like we have now.
Every comp I work on with problems & make sure it is malware free & then run the Wise tools.

"I will try the ram checker as well"
Yep, process of elimination, once you have done that, let us know the result & if it is still freezing.

Hi John, I ran the "windows memory diagnostic tool" on my computer. It said no problems have been detected. Is this a good tool to use ? Or is the memtest86 needed also?

I ran into a problem with that, I attached a screen shot. I downloaded the file to a USB. and Opened the memtest usb file. I clicked the usb drive (e:) and step 2 is by default on "write to ufd" , I clicked write to ufd and this message came up. Sorry but I have not done this before and im not too computer saavy.

Screenshot attached

Thankyou

Bruce

If it is an iso (image) file then you will have to use "burn an image" feature. Most burning software has this, or there are freebies around such as this:
http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
