Microsoft stopped paying the license fees for DVD playback, so Win8 cannot play back DVDs without additional third party software.

You don't have 2tb of memory, you have a 2tb hard drive. It comes with 8gb of RAM and the max it can take is 16gb of RAM. It has an i3 processor so it's not actually that powerful.

It's not a high end PC, but fine for the average home user.

As Razor2.3 points out, Microsoft stopped paying the $2.00 DVD licence with Win8, figuring they could save money, as the new compact laptops and tablet PCs don't have a DVD drive anyway.

To go the Microsoft route, to play DVDs, you can get Windows Media centre pack, but at a cost. Windows 8.1 costs $99.99 (that's not a mis-type).!!! For Win8.1 Pro it's $9.99.!!

To get round the problem, download one of the free multi-media players.
VLC Player is pretty much universally acclaimed and plays just about any video and audio format going.

BTW. It's likely your DVD player wont be able to play Blu-ray videos, only standard DVDs, so check what you're feeding the drive with.

EDIT: Your PC may have come with a 3rd party DVD player software ready installed for you to use, such as Power DVD or WinDVD.
However I still prefer the likes of VLC player over any of them.
