Hello -

I'm fixing a laptop for a friend. I have determined that the hard drive is corrupted so I inserted a rescue disc into the computer...wouldn't boot into it. I had to change the BIOS settings to legacy in order for it to boot to the disc. Once the files loaded it went to a black screen and a small blue status bar appeared in the top left corner. It went full then shutdown the computer. This loops and never boots into the disc. If I set BIOS to defaults, it bypasses the CDROM and tries to boot into Windows 8, where it gives an error. Can anyone help?

Please give the make and model of the laptop. They differ in how the recovery disc/partition is set up.
