Try switching to desktop mode.

Also do the windows updates to get you to 8.1 update.

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

From the desktop you can create an icon to the old style Internet Explorer. Create a shortcut to iexplore.exe which is in "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer". If you are not showing file extensions then it might show as just iexplore

If you prefer to use the new Start Screen then the desktop shortcut can be pinned to it Call the shortcut "IE Desktop" or similar.

Internet Explorer updates will automatically apply to both IE versions.

Any special reason you don't want 8.1? It went in fine for me and I can't see any downside - you don't have to change anything. In the long term only the updated versions are likely to be supported by MS.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

He said he did NOT want to upgrade to 8.1. I have 8.1 on my laptop, and it works OK. However, I did do the upgrade on my desktop PC, and was sorry I did because it would not let me pay certain bills online, and I could not uninstall it. Fortunately, I have the OS cloned on another hard drive, and was able to revert it back by cloning the 8.1 HD from the 8.0 HD.
