Having delayed embarking on this update to allow the bugs to be sorted, I nearly installed the update today. The first issue was that the update had vanished from the Apps Store. There are geeks fiddles around to get this to appear but from another website it seems MS keep pulling it because they are overloaded.
I then discovered this dated 12 November 2013:

Seems this update can screw up your system requiring a clean reload of Win 8.
I also read there is some requisite to first apply updateKB2871839KB2871389(whatever that is - seems to be rather elusive).
EDIT: Seems a typo in that KB number is doing the rounds - see post below.IMO the best advice for those who have not yet installed the Win 8.1 update to keep waiting a few more weeks to see how it shakes out rather than being a guinea pig at this stage. The odd patch is to be expected but this all sounds very messy.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

According to what I found there was a typo http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287...
I should note, that the error was microsofts, not Derek

mikelinus Good find - I've done some strike outs and changes in my original post.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Strangely the Win 8.1 upgrade suddenly arrive back in Apps (it was there in the past too). No idea why - perhaps MS pull it at times as previously suggested. "I then discovered this dated 12 November 2013"
I've found that this has actually been an issue since at least 20 October. No idea if MS are tackling it, but if not the fact that it is now receiving more prominence might prompt them into action.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
