Why, whenever I copy a txt file to my CD it converts to XML.

September 17, 2018 at 03:08:49
Specs: Windows 10
Running WIN 7 standalone with expired/not activated Microsoft services. It worked for a year or more and now its not working. Whenever I copy .TXT files to the CD and then open those files on my WIN 10 computer (network), they shows on the CD as a XML files. I have important docs that I need to copy and process on the network computer before I have the computer reimaged.

As you are going to reimage, probably easier to use an online convertor.

Is it possible that the files have NOT been mysteriously converted to .xml
but are just incorrectly displaying the .xml file extension in File Explorer?
Maybe all that is needed is a Registry fix that corrects the key that specifies
what to do with .txt files.

Can you drag one of these files onto Notepad or another plain text viewer
to see what it actually contains. I'll bet it is just plain text, unless you saved
the files from Word or Excel or some such.

The key word there is probably Encrypted.

Do you have an encrypt-or installed or use the built in encryption?
