Why is there no internet connections?

May 8, 2017 at 13:42:20
Specs: Windows
So I haven't touched my computer in maybe 2-3 years because something wasn't working. Just fixed it yesterday but now there isn't any internet connection. There's only a ethernet with no connection.
Also, remember I installing a Windows 10 update awhile ago but now it is failing to upgrade. I didnt upgrade to Windows 10 in the past because of bug issues.

I tried to upgrade the drivers but it says it's fully upgraded.

Your spec says Windows. I'll assume that it should say Windows 8 as that is the forum you have posted on.

Let us know the details of your network, also whether any other devices you have are connecting normally.

I haven't Win 8 in front of me but I assume you can get to network troubleshooters from:
Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View All. On Win 10 there is one for Network Adapter and others for Internet Connections. There should be something similar for Win 8 so click around in there.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Make sure your Ethernet cable is fully pushed in at both ends.

Right click on the Network internet access logo in the bar next to the clock.
Select > Troubleshoot.

Troubleshoot Cannot Connect to Internet in Windows

It would be helpful if you described the original problem. what you did to eventually fix it, and what system or hardware do you have. The more information you can give us the better we can get the picture and offer real suggestions. Are you connected via Cat5 (etc) network cable or Wifi? There are different procedures depending on which.
Since you admit that it was unplugged for years, you may have trouble with the system holding settings including date and time when it is shut down. If you do then replace the coin battery on the motherboard.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I cannot connect to anything. There's no network to connect to. Just a unfamiliar ethernet which I'm connected to. It's not mine, it just appeared there.

My original problem was just a cooler problem. Found out a screw was just stuck in the bottom of the fan.

I'll try getting the name of the router and what diagnosis says.

"Just a unfamiliar router which I'm connected to. It's not mine, it just appeared there"
Google for the manual & read how to set it up.

Setting up the router? Wait... It was an Ethernet. Sorry.

You still use the router if you are using ethernet.

Have you tried any of the suggestions?

I trouble shoot and here's what it said:
"Problems Found: Problem with wireless adapter or access point".

Here's my adapter information:
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
Version: 10.0.0.274

In my network connections, there is three X on Bluetooth, Ethernet, and Wi-fi.

Is it only this computer not connecting to your home network? Other devices can connect? Wireless? Wired?

Try resetting the windows network:

So, really it is just Wifi that you are trying to make work (Ethernet cable is not used). Is that right?

Look in Device Manager and let us know if there are any errors showing in Network adapters. It might help to expand out the entry - right click and Uninstall the Wifi adapter. DO NOT let it uninstall "software" if it asks, otherwise ignore all warnings. You then restart the computer it will then pick up the driver again (finds new hardware). This can sometimes fix things.
