The computer probably went to sleep. Try clicking the mouse, or pressing the space bar, or possibly a quick press of the power button.

If it will not wake up you may have to press and hold the power button to force a full shut down so you can start it again.
To avoid this happening again, go into Power Options, possibly under advanced options. Set hard drive to "Never" power down. When the hard drive powers down in this way and at the same time or shortly after the machine goes into Hybrid Sleep you get this hanging since the system cannot save the RAM to hard drive due to the power down. After you invoke sleep the hard drive is powered down anyway so this option is not needed and causes this problem on some machines with some drives.
If you do not want the system to go into sleep on you, you can make the sleep time longer (15 or 20 minutes) or 'Never'. This will not stop you from invoking sleep manually from the shut down menu so you can always use this feature still.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I took the battery out of the tower and now the monitor works, so I need to replace the battery. Thanks for your reply
