What make and model is your computer, and how old?

Presuming it's a conventional laptop, the battery is usually insered at the back; it slides in from rear edge. To release it there are usually a couple of sliding "rraised buttons" for want of a description on the underside of the laptop, which release the battery for removal.

Do you have the mains adapter/charger (again presuming it's a laptop) and does the laptop work ok when that is connected and powered up/switched on? And does it actually charge the battery?

If you haven't realized it yet, until you get a good battery you need to keep the charger attached while you use the laptop.
