Hello All,
I have a question concerning "cleaning/PC optimization/fixit" type utilities. I currently have an XP machine but this question is in reference to Windows 8(8.1) OS's. For several years I've used CCleaner with Auslogics disk and registry defrag and they've been adequate. I would like to here your recommendations and/or opinions on the same kind of freeware or purchased utilities for a Windows 8 PC. What's working for you?

I would've placed this post in the software category but didn't see an appropriate subcategory.

Thanks.
-Mike

CCleaner works on Windows 8 too. That's all you need since it has a reliable Registry cleaner built-in as well as it's "one click" cleanup of temporary files and web history.

It doesn't have a data defragger of course. Windows already has it's own, but for something that's more configurable and user-friendly I find that Defraggler (from the maker's of CCleaner) fits the bill nicely.

Both CCleaner and Defraggler are available in portable versions too, so you don't have to install them, just put them on a pen drive. Another good reason to recommend them.

I use these.

Run Wise Disk Cleaner ( Run the 1st three tabs, left to right. I use default settings, leave boxes that are unchecked, unchecked ) Reboot when finished.

Run Wise Registry Cleaner ( Only use Registry Cleaner & with default settings. Don't use System Tuneup, that is for Experts, you really have to know what you are doing ) Reboot when finished.

Be careful with "cleaning/PC optimization/fixit" programs you see on the net, many are scams and most of the others have the potential to do more harm than good.

CCleaner is pretty harmless. Windows 8 on modern hardware runs fine without any tweaker programs.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
