Solved Upgrading From Win 8 To Win 8.1

November 5, 2014 at 03:08:47
Specs: Windows 8, i7 Intel 16 gig Ram
I have Windows 8 currently installed and would like to upgrade to 8.1.

I know I can do this through the store, however what happens if the PC crashes one day and you have to reinstall windows 8.

Do I have to go through the same process all over again and re download 8.1 update after reinstalling Win 8?

Is there anyway that I can request the 8.1update so I can save it it a DVD and install it from the Disc?

This way if I have to rebuild my PC in the future, I don't have keep download a 3 GIG Plus download just to update again.

I am sure we all know what we go thru when we rebuild our PC after a crash.

Thanks to all who reply.

✔ Best Answer
The Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant will give you the opportunity to produce an ISO file or a USB stick of the upgrade files.

Um - Windows. That's why it's in the Windows 8 forum.

Ummm... yes.. must learn to read the OS designation more carefully. Been so many calls here at CN around "iOS8" that one can forget (and not see even) there is windows 8...

Note also that when you get the system exactly the way you want it, you can make an image of the hard drive to an external hard drive and in an emergency, just restore the image back to the same or new hard drive and restore recent back ups and you are back in business much faster than rebuilding the drive from an original or factory install/restore and setting it all up all over again. If you update this maybe twice a year and keep weekly (or daily) back ups, you will always be in good shape if the unthinkable happens to you.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

In windows 8 > Metro Apps > PC settings > Update & recovery check for the latest updates. Win 8.1 should be in the update list.
