Solved Tweak order of programs loaded at windows 8.1 startup

July 13, 2014 at 05:53:46
Specs: Windows 8.1
How can I change the order of programs loaded at startup?

I am running Windows 8.1 and find that my Wi Fi is loaded and then both SKYPE and Utorrent are loaded BEFORE my anti virus program has been loaded.

My question to you is - why are you having utorrent & Skype load at startup in the 1st place? Take them off the startup list & start them when you need them.

See this:

Note that I have not used it personally so cannot vouch for it in any way.

I had something similar once on XP and although it worked I decided it was of dubious real value.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

All you (presumably) really know is that the virus checker tray icon appears later. The AV program itself might still be running before the items you mentioned. Or have you checked this out in some other way?

I downloaded the suggested program and it does indeed solve my problem by delaying the loading of SKYPE..not sure about Utorrent as it did not show as a startup program for some reason.

Perhaps I can check this later. Thanks very much for your assistance.
A quick update...I now found out how to change both programs that I wanted. WinPatrol works great and has solved the problem easily and quickly.

Many many thanks for your sugestion!

Both the SKYPE and the Utorrent icons appear in the in the same tray as the anti-virus and both appear before the anti-virus icon appears. If it loads before it appears I do not at this time know it but will certainly check to see if it in fact does. The appearances may be deceiving.

Thanks again for your time and suggestions.

You didn't answer my question in response #1 - why do you want them loading at startup to begin with?

Re #8

Just an observation, I can see why folk might want Skype to startup automatically, so that they can be seen by other Skype users without having to switch on Skype manually at every boot. Torrents could definitely be a manual start tho.

Sorry if you do not agree but that is your busines mine was to find a solution...which I did from another member.

Thank you so much for your comments.

I downloaded and the program great. At first I had a problem with utorrent but I just un-clicked the start check when windows starts. No problem. Whats more you can delay any program so that it starts after your anti virus programs are loaded. This way there is never a problem. Easy to set up and easy to run the program would recommend to anyone.
I am talking about the free winpatrol program thanks.

I doubt the virus program is loaded AFTER any other program.
I'm sure it is loaded before the network services are started.
The icon's on the desktop tray do not represent services but agents that can be started with a click on the icon. The agent may already run long time before it appears on the tray "in due time".
