Solved Technicolor modem problem How to undo Win 8.1 upgrade (PT 1)

Specs: Windows 8 - 64Bit, 1.8 GHz / 4gig
My Asus Laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed. Last night I bit the bullet and downloaded the 8.1 upgrade which took a good hour to complete.

I access the internet using a wireless modem [Technicolor TG797n.v3]. On Windows 8 the connection was faultless but now after the upgrade I have no, or limited WIFI connection. Every site returns the message "the internet connection has timed out" If i connect [at the moment] using the ADSL cable the connection works but it is inconvenient and it still takes ages to connect.

My question therefor is whether it is possible to tweak the modem or to revert to Windows 8

The only way to revert to Windows 8.0 is by re-installing it. On your laptop therefore you'll need to perform the Factory Recovery process, but be sure to backup all your data to a different hard drive or to optical discs before doing that because factory recovery will erase all data that's currently on the C: partition.

Thank you Phil... I was rather hoping there would be a shortcut. In the meantime though I have moved the modem to a more convenient position. I have also disabled some of the "Extensions" and virtually all the "Plugins" but one and this seemed to speed up connection with a higher connection success. I have also re-installed Firefox 24 and that seems to have helped also. Maybe it's all phsychological!

There is a "Windows Old" folder in the C: drive now, I presume I can delete that?

Regards.

Windows might not let you delete Windows.old folder. Give it a week to make sure it doesn't get purged by Windows. If necessary use Disk Cleanup to get shot of it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
