Subject Line Missing on Forwarded Emails in Outlook 2013

April 21, 2014 at 12:11:51
Specs: Windows 8.1, AMD A10-6800K
I just started getting calls from some of my email recipients that the subject line is empty on the email messages that I'm forwarding to them. I checked and every email message in my Outlook 2013 account has a subject line. I have made no changes to my email account so I'm really baffled as to what's going on here. When I create a new message and send it the subject line always shows up for the recipient. It's just the forwarded messages that are affected. If anyone has suggestions as to where to look I'd be most appreciative of your help.

Long shot but install the Update to 8.1 - there's always the chance it will fix it and you need it to get security updates after May 13th anyway.

By the way, you posted this on our old Windows 95/98 forum. I will ask for it to be transferred to Windows 8.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I apologize - I forgot to mention that I am running Windows 8.1 Professional and have all the latest updates.

Sorry but because of MS's quaint numbering (or lack of) for the latest update, can you confirm that you have both of the following?:

Win 8 to Win 8.1 from Windows Store.

Update to 8.1 itself - Recent one from Windows Updates.

Also did the problem come along after one of the above updates?

I actually did a fresh install of the Windows Professional 8.1 release (MS Part #: X18-45392). The issue with the subject line missing has been going on since I installed the OS on my PC and before any updates were ever applied.

If you send an email to yourself does the subject line go missing?

If I forward an existing message to myself the subject line is missing. If I create a new message and send it to myself the subject line is present.

Out of pure curiosity I'd be interested to know if Fw: appears.

It's an unusual symptom. Have you tried the Office 2013 repair (select Outlook):

This is interesting - before running the Office 2013 repair program I would get the FW: in the subject line and nothing else when forwarding an existing message to myself. After running the repair program the subject line is now completely blank when I forward a message to myself.

Short of uninstall re-install I've really no ideas about this one. I doubt you would want to do that, although there are ways to save your email addresses.

It's rare and the odd instances I've found in Google were Office 2010 and never resolved. If you want to try your luck in Google I would suggest the string "Subject Line Missing Forwarded Emails Outlook" - might as well include any Outlook version (on and in are ignored).

Maybe someone else on here will step in with some ideas, although they haven't so far.

It's unlikely that I will suddenly think of anything more but it this should happen I'll let you know immediately.

Seems I missed this one (new profile):

There are others but they don't quite fit the symptoms you reported.
