Solved Side bar displays even though cursor is nowhere near edge

June 2, 2013 at 23:07:18
Specs: Windows 8
I can be in the middle of any process, inquiry, spreadsheet and the cursor can be positioned in the middle of the screen, if not way left , and the side bar appears on the far right and date in the bottom left. When the sidebar is displayed the touchpad does not respond to requests, tapping the touch pad may cause the bar to close but as soon as I move the cursor the bar reappears. This is a new Dell laptop, up to date and clean. Any idea what can be done to stop this. Sensitivity settings do not cut it, have not tried a mouse because I do not want a mouse, very frustrating and time-wasting.

I would guess it is to do with the 'gesture' settings on the touchpad - because manufacturers are trying their best to make Win8 work without a touchscreen they are adding loads of different functions to the way touchpads behave when you swipe in different ways, so check in Control Panel/mouse and see if there is a list of the swiping options available and have a play around to see which is the culprit.

Just to say that this normally happens when you point to top right or bottom right corners then drag downwards.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Removed the 'Right Edge Swipe tick' yesterday and so far have not been bothered with the pushy side bar.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
