Second monitor only works briefly before going blank in Win8

Hi everyone,

I would be very grateful for any help you could provide on the problem below.

I have recently installed Windows 8. Since doing so, I have a dual monitor problem which seems to be caused on the surface by my GeForce GT 610 GPU.

In short, whilst I can log on to Windows perfectly normally, after less than 5 minutes my second monitor (powered by the GT 610) goes blank. And when I look at the device manager it tells me that I have a problem.

I've tried reinstalling the various Nvidia programs and drivers that the GeForce Experience program tells me I need but this only solves the issue temporarily. Next time I login I get exactly the same problem.

Now I know the GT 610 is a crappy card but I'm not a gamer so I'm not really seeking an upgrade. It's a family computer used for little more than web browsing and homework.

On top of that the motherboard is pretty old too and I've found myself wondering whether it could be a BIOS issue? It hasn't been updated since May 2007. The motherboard is made by ECS and the model is NF-MCP61. The chipset is Nvidia Geforce 6100 SM-M V1.0.

However, even if this were the case I can't find the newest version of BIOS to flash to. Even on ECS's own website the options don't extend to Windows 8.

If anyone has come across this problem before or has ideas about how to solve it I'd be extremely happy!

Thanks in advance.

"Even on ECS's own website the options don't extend to Windows 8"

Then you've found the problem right there. Windows 8 is not supported on your motherboard model so why did you install Windows 8 knowing there are no Win8 drivers for it.?

How can you expect the hardware to work properly when you ignore something like that?
