Take my advice and forget about McAfee software. You will have to contact them to get the software downloaded again without being charged a second time, but from what I've read in various forums that is not going to happen, they will charge you for it because they don't keep records of sales.

If you bought it online through "Digital River" and you still have the original order number, you may get somewhere with them. Too bad you didn't save the McAfee download, it would have saved any hassle.

Since McAfee have a terrible reputation for customer support (or lack of) you'd be better off with something like Comodo Internet Security - it's free. You don't have to pay for effective online security: http://www.comodo.com/

If you do decide to uninstall McAfee see this:

If you want a free antivirus there are several to choose from - just ask on here.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Windows 8 has built-in protection but it's disabled by default. Microsoft did that as a "gift" to the OEMs (Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, etc) so they can include AV trialware on their PCs & get a kickback from the software companies. All you need to do is enable it, no other protection is required. If you prefer 3rd party protection, there are several decent freebies available (AVAST, AVG, BitDefender, etc) . Norton & McAfee should be avoided.
