My 4 month old Asus K53E laptop has showed me this message.
¨reboot and select proper boot device, or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key¨
I had a new harddrive and Windows 8 installed to my laptop recently which was working fine for a matter of days. Till the time i turned it on and it displays this message.
what can i do??
just solved the problem, turns out the damn ppl at the repair shop didnt place a bracket back in my laptop on the HD, thus wen i opened the laptop compartment it turns out the HD was loose! just slipped it back in place and voila!
If you have no CD or flash drives inserted and you have not changed anything in BIOS then most likely the new HD has failed. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Since it only worked for a few days maybe the drive cable is loose or damaged. But even if the drive is bad it should be under warranty.
if that´s the case, my laptop is under warranty, but i am not in the region where the laptop was fitted with the new HD, should i resign to sending it to a pc repair shop?
edit*: one thing i would like to know about, is how to prevent this from happening in the future should i replace my asus for a brand new laptop?message edited by zarzanator
You might have been just unlucky, I can't think of anything else that would cause an HD to die. Maybe the drives used were of poor quality but sometime this sort of nonsense can just happen. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Nicely done - thanks for popping back to let us know. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
