Solved Question about Browsers in Windows 8.1

July 27, 2014 at 19:18:42
Specs: Windows 8.1, 8gbram
First of all the new computer system I have comes installed with IE. I am thinking about switching to Google Chrome on my system, what do I do. To make Google Chrome my default browser, and is it safer than IE. I know Chrome has a lot more to me crapware and adware, extensions and apps. Then I want to run if I can and here is the thing I want to run Firefox on an expansion drive that I bought. The reason that I got an expansion drive is that my last system of 7ish 8 yrs went down. One day will get back to fixing that and selling it. I built the system 8 yrs ago and it has everything up to date except a 3.0 usb drive. Reading all this can you tell me your opinion.

✔ Best Answer
Browsers are a personnel thing, I have many installed.

Install Chrome & it will become default.

if you then install Firefox, it will become default.

To change a default setting will be in options/preferences.

Yes JohnW, I understand all that. But do you have both browsers on your main system. Should I get rid of IE11 or just leave that on my system too. The reason behind all this is because I use Yahoo. Yes I am still a true believer in Yahoo. But I want to actually get into my yahoo bookmarks and see if I can get them onto Google Chrome. Google chrome is the cloud correct, so on my new system I should be able to see all the favorites that I had on my last system when I log into Chrome, correct. I have some many bookmarks in two ids on Yahoo I am looking for a way to put them elsewhere and get rid of Yahoo all together. Maybe just use Yahoo mail since its an account of 10 years or more.

You can't really uninstall IE. It is more than a browser but essentially a part of the OS.

You may also want to give Iron a look-see. Built off of Chrome but even "less intrusive"...

There's no need to remove IE, just ignore it, any other browser will work fine alongside it. In any event you need it for Windows Updates.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
