Problems with chdsk & sfc /scannow

Specs: windows 8, 2.793 GHz / 4 gig
its been a long time since I used these commands on my pc.

when I click Run - type in chkdsk - click ok - all I saw was a Black window flashed for half a second.
when I click Run - type in sfc /scannow - click ok - all I saw was a Black window flashed for half a second.

is this Normal ?????????????????

when I go to cmd - c:\Users\admin> chkdsk - enter - I get "access Denied: - is this Normal ????????????

when I go to cmd - c:\Users\admin> sfc /scannow - enter - I "You must be administrator" - is this Normal ????????????

I didn't look at Johnw's links but you don't run those commands from RUN. You need to use the command prompt as administrator. I'm not very familiar with Win8 but try doing a search for CMD, right click on it & select "Run as administrator". Then type your command & press Enter.
