Is this the key for the computer's operating system, or the key for the game?

If the game.. where and how did you purchase the game?

If the operating system for the computer… was it working before you tried to install/run the game; and where did you get the computer from?

Also make and model of computer is useful to include an "any" post you make on comptug.net forums

If, as I assume, it is for the game your best bet would be to contact wherever you got it from and explain your situation. They might play ball but I imagine it is so that it only goes to the one purchaser and is therefore related to the computer.

I doubt anyone can help on here.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Sounds a bit like either a dubious copy of a game - possibly "sold" as genuine article.

If on eBay - sadly there are quite a few software items there that use the same key for all sales. (Be it windows, assorted M$ windows apps, utilities and games…) Some "vendors" buy a bunch of keys, sell the software (cd/dvd) - each with one of the keys; and when they have sold/used all the keys - start again; selling the same software and with one of the multiple keys - working their way down the list again... and again…

Some just sell the same key over and over…; and some generate dodgy/fake keys too…

Inevitably it will happen that one finds the key they have won't work at all; or, as has also happened, a key will work for a while and then stop (particularly with M$ items when updates/upgrades are applied).

If on the other hand, you have used the game on another computer yourself, you may have found out that you will need to purchase a new copy for a new machine. You can try contacting the game vendor and see if they will allow you to transfer it as long as you uninstall it from the first machine, but this is unlikely.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
