I"m not sure about Windows 8, but in Windows 7, the Power Options, System Settings, just tell the computer what to do when you press the power button. Is that what you're talking about?

I believe the poster is talking about the power off button located through the charms bar.

How exactly do you know the laptop is running?

beachyhbt: my meaning was what NT56erbx said. In Windows 8 the way of shutting down is somehow different.
NT56erbx: because its lights stay on and after some times the fan starts working.

thanks

Not what you asked but on my Win 8.1 I found that the most reliable shutdown was to use slide-to-shutdown. See here:
http://betanews.com/2013/11/06/acti...

It cured all its funnies (I'd tried many other ideas).

What happens when you press the power button on your computer (don't hold it)?

Does it shutdown normally or does it still stay partially on?

Do you have any special Win8 or power saving settings enabled in BIOS?
