What version of IE are you using? In my experience, when IE stops responding, it's because of an add-on. I would start by re-setting IE by going to the Internet Options menu in IE, click on the 'Security' tab and click on the 'Reset all zones to default level.' Now go to the 'Privacy' tab and click on the 'Default' button. If either the 'Default' or 'Reset all zones to default level' buttons are grey, that means they are already set to the default. Finally click on the advanced tab; click the 'Restore advanced settings' then click the 'apply' button at the very bottom. Finally on the 'Advanced' tab, click the 'Reset...' button and select all check marks and click 'Reset.' You will be prompted because IE will need to restart for that to take effect.

If that fixes your problem you will need to figure out which add-on was causing the problem and get rid of it.
