Possibly needs a new battery as after a few years they can no longer hold a charge.
The original charger may have been perfectly okay, it could have been the battery all the time.

Acer advise that the battery in your model Aspire will go for 1000 cycles of discharge/charge. They state that represents about 4yrs use...

The info is buried ithin the link above.

However... I think that if you haven't gone the 1000 cycles in 4 yrs. likely the battery will last longer.

My elderly Aspire 1692series - 2005 I think I bought it - still has the original battery and it's fine. Battery has been in some of the time, but seldom dischared to any degree. Then was "out" for an age. Then after a rebuild of the installation - to resolve a "pest" and also to get the charging process back to normal within the M$windows software - it is charges fine. Not that it really needs charging, as laptop is on mains power with battery in place all the time.

Amazon has a good range of battery supplies and associated vendors. Might be worth to check what the cost of a replacement is?

Presumably the laptop is working OK on mains power - with or without the battery installed?

Your spec says Windows 7 but you have posted on the Windows 8 forum. If it is the latter, as computers using that haven't been around too long you wouldn't normally expect a battery failure just yet. Or maybe it was a Win 7 to Win 8 upgrade?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
