Mozilla thunderbird not working correctly

Specs: Windows 8.1
Thunder-bird saying it is downloading emails but this doesn't happen left it for more than an hour
I can see the e-mails if I go to the website but would prefer to see them without having to open a browser

Simpler than that... First try just restarting the computer, if this does not work then do a system restore to a date before the issue began. If the restore point was before a Windows Update then manually run Windows Update and rescan for updates and install all important ones. Then try Thunderbird again. Doing it this way and there is less chance you will have to reset all of your settings in Thunderbird where reinstalling it you probably would.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
