You most likely damaged your hard drive when it dropped. Find out what make of hard drive you have and run the hard drive diagnostic utility from that manufacturer.

Also - although the Hard Drive itself doesn't like sudden shocks, and being dropped is quite "sudden"... - it may also be that the RAM has shaken loose in its socket(s)...

To check that you would remove "all power" - battery included. Leave it to sit a for a minute or so...

Then locate and remove the cover that sits over the RAM sticks...

Have a good look, and if feeling up to it... carefully remove each stick (if two actually present); re-install ensuring each one goes where it was originally.

Replace cover; install battery, press on button... See what happens... You can also connect mains power if you wish; but for an initial test not really needed - if battery is OK, and adequately charged up.

Also when you do power up can you hear anything like the drive spinning up, or feel any sense of activity at all (possibly a very slight vibration or similar)? Similarly are there any beeping sounds when it boots up - and if so how many etc..?

Do you have any disks that came with the laptop - from the manufacturer/vendor?

And what make/model is it?

You should be able to do a Start Up Repair from a Windows 8 Repair Disk that you should have made from the machine when it was new. You can make one from another Windows 8 machine and use that as well.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
