Ideally you want mains power when in any setup, reset/recovery (to factory state) or restoring an image. Battery only "ought" to be OK as long the time required for the reset/recovery is well within the battery's available power time (if you see what I mean).

Mac systems appear to insist on it baed on my own (limited) experience with them.

If on mains, full battery and mains fails some time during the reset etc., as long as time left is within battery's time - ought to be OK.

Just make sure before you do any form of reset etc., that any personal files (photos, music not the least) are safely duplicated off the system - to DVD at least; and verify the copies are OK before going any further.

Others here may have different views; so wait and see what they add...

It is not possible to properly answer such a broad question. It all depends on the condition of your battery which depends on its age as well as how fully it is charged.

A decent battery should not have any trouble running for 10 minutes.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
