internet radio cuts out on new windows 8.1 laptop

Specs: Windows 64
internet radio from a variety of stations keeps cutting out, even though other devices in the house using wireless fibre broadband are fine. Also having problems watching streamed tv with buffering, but again only on the new laptop. any advice please, written in simple non technical terms would be gratefully received.

It could be that there are too many background programs running. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del, select "Task Manager > Startup tab" and see if there is anything there that you don't need starting every time. It should indicate any processes with high usage.

Malware is another possibility. Just to get a very quick idea, download ADWCleaner:
(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the Scan. You then have options to remove whatever it shows under each heading in the table that appears below, although it is usually safe to run "Cleaning".
