to the APP menu, instead. I know I'll just click on that UP arrow at the bottom and it will bring me to the Start Menu. Another not necessary step though!

Dumb situation but how do I change it to what I want the computer to do?

Did you check the link in my other response? You have to go to Taskbar & Navigation Properties > Navigation tab, then select the option you want under Start screen.

I am not really sure that i understand your question. What I assume that you are asking is "How do I get my classic Windows START button?" Windows 8 was conceived with tablets and touchscreen computers in mind leaving the classic windows 95 screen behind. Well there are a lot of people that do not like the new GUI. having said this, you can try a free program called "Classic Shell". This program gives your computer the Windows 7 look and feel, but you still have the option of going to the APP screen if you desire. My wife uses Classic Shell and it boots up into the Windows 95 is screen.

If i misunderstood your question...I apologize.

I tried all your suggestions, but all I want is the TILED Window 8.1 START which you get when you 1st install Windows 8.0. What I have now is the APP menu when I open up my computer. To get to the START menu, I have to go to the bottom of the APP menu and click the up arrow to bring me to the Start Menu.

thanks riider and dcutl002

I think I know what you mean. Follow the procedure in the link given in response #1. Remove the check mark in "Show the Apps view automatically when I go to Start".

That should make it the way you want.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks Derek! I had a little difficulty following the response #1 but it could have solved my problem.

Thanks riider,. Following the Control Panel's Taskbar and Nav Properties went easy to follow for me. I tried looking for that solution for several hours in the control panel categories and I gave up so I posted my question. Big Help.....
