Specs: Windows 8
When i try factory resetting it says 'preparing' shortly after it says 'there was a problem while resetting your PC' and under it says 'No changes were made' and under that it says 'check problem for solution' and i click it and it exits out itself and nothing happens. i need to restore my laptop to factory settings because it has gone so slow and wont let me go out applications but when it does it freezes and is very slow

Do you really need to use Factory Restore, which loses all your own files? Maybe it would be best to tackle the slowness. As often as not (but not always) this is due to malware. I would suggest running these three small freebies which are safe and well used on Malware forums. They often unearth what your anti-virus can miss:

AdwCleaner:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Cleaning" button.

Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run JRT. It might appear to have stopped at times or flash the screen but sit tight until it has finished.

MalwareBytes:
http://filehippo.com/download_malwa...
(green Download button top right - not anything else on the page)
Install and Run the program but before doing its Scan go to "Settings > Detection and Protection" and put a checkmark in "Scan for rootkits". Quarantine anything it finds.

Please copy/paste the logs on here. Even if the symptoms go away further checks might be necessary to ensure your computer is properly clean. Also let us know if there is any improvement afterwards.

EDIT:
If you can't run them Save the download files on another computer then transfer them over to the one giving trouble using a flash drive.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Checkmark - maybe you know it better is a "tick". It's just to make it check a little deeper for what are known as rootkits.

"Settings" is one of the headings along the top, you click that and "Detection and protection" is in the list on the left. In the "Detection options" is "Scan for rootkits". Click that and a tick or check mark will appear. It's just like saying 'yes, do this as well'.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
