Solved I have LibreOffice download issues

September 11, 2013 at 07:05:23
Specs: Windows 8
I downloaded Libreoffice 4 but when I double click on the downloaded file, I don't get the "welcome dialogue box" all I get is a box saying "view and track your downloads" which gives me options to open or save, when I click open, it just shows "security scan running" then nothing only "open or save options". I had to do a refresh on my pc and had Libreoffice before the refresh, and had no issues. I am on Windows 8, any help I can get would be appreciated.

Like I said, I don't know what I'm doing differently. The link I tried started as .msi & ended as .msi. The download you linked to above shows that it's .man right from the start. Have a look at this suggestion to change the IE security settings or add the download site to the list of safe sites:

The installation file size is 205MB. Make sure you're downloading the "main installer" not the torrent, is that what you have?

Hi riider,

Yes I downloaded both files as suggested, in order from the Libreoffice.org site, however, since my earlier comment I have been searching the net and find several comments refering to the files being downloaded as .man files, instead of .msi, even as you click on the LO site to download the file, it mentions your " LibreOffice_4.1.1_Win_x86.msi" will download shortly" but the file comes as .man.

The second file when clicked to download also says it will be a .man file, but from a mirror site at .catn.com is there an issue there?

I am running these downloads on IE10 in windows 8, not being a very advanced computer user I am not fully conversant with all this mirror, .msi. man stuff, so please give me some leeway when/if you respond. Thanks

I don't know what I'm doing differently but I just gave it a shot, the file is .msi. Try one of the mirror sites.

I tried the link you sent and chose this one for downloads for GB :

http://mirror.catn.com/pub/tdf/libr...

And again it came thro as a .man file!!!!!

Take a look at this site I found in my net searches: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.com...

Note the comment about the IE quirk of changing the file form .msi - .man I tried to rename the extension to .msi, but didn't have any joy.

You will have to forgive the Brit sense of humour in this link though!!!

I'm somewhat confused this link(for GB)taken from the mirror site you suggested was showing as .msi : http://mirror.catn.com/pub/tdf/libr... when I downloaded it ended as .man

So which link do you mean when you say "The download you linked to above shows that it's .man right from the start"? Because the second link I entered was just to show that there has been some internet chatter on this subject.

Anyway, all these suggestions of "changing security settings etc" as mentioned on your last post, are somewhat above my comprehension, and I don't want to finish up messing my up laptop .

So I have decided to download it via Chrome (NO PROBLEMS AT ALL), I didn't particularly want to install Chrome as I am used to IE, but why do Microsoft make things so complicated? I had LibreOffice before I was upgraded to IE 10, without any problems, then it all goes to pot when they start messing around.
