Solved how to turn off apps in Windows 8 to conserve battery life

Specs: Windows 8
I want to know how to turn off or shut down apps when I'm finished without turning off my computer to keep them from draining my battery.

Alt+F4 is the keyboard shortcut to close programs and it works for me on my Win8 machine.

You can also use Alt+Tab to tab through all of the open programs to select them and use the Alt+F4 to close them.

...also, from the Start Screen you can move the mouse to the far top left, right click your mouse and close from there. I'm not using touch screen but assume that you can do the same sort of thing with your finger.
