Ask the person you acquired the laptop from.

When you searched on Google, there is a lot of recommendations. Some are good but some are just waste of time. I have successfully reset my windows admin password with the following tutorial by making a bootable usb disk. Here is the tutorial: http://www.iseepassword.com/how-to-...

Current laptops and desktops allow a usb boot option. It's accessed/selected via the bios settings. After the initial bootup splash screen there is usually a brief message (text on screen) telling you what to press to access/enter setup/bios.

Make and model of computer is useful... And if you search online for the user manual for your model you can find how to set the usb boot option in the manual.

Download ophcrack, I use it all the time for forgotten passwords. It's a bootable image so you have to either burn it on a CD or create a bootable USB flash drive using rufus

If you want to find out the original password, you have to use the unique Ophcrack (just as jbuluba suggested) to perform a brute-force attack but you might have no luck when the recovery time lasts too long. While resetting the password is quickly and instantly:

Of course, if your computer have a backup, restore it to a restore point when you remember the password.
