Did you make any changes? It looks like the laptop is trying to boot to the Network Card. The most common cause for this is a bad hard drive.

When you boot, do you see an option to enter Setup? Go into setup and look at the Boot Order. The hard drive should be the first boot device. I can't be more specific without knowing what type of laptop you have.

If you post your manufacturer/model number, it'll be easier to help you.

Hi its an Asus K55A. The screen doesn't give me any option to go into set up. It tells me Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 083) and that is covered by one or more of a list of patents then Realtek PCIe GBE family controllr series v2.46 (03/23/12)
PXE - E61 Media test failure , check cable and then the message as detailed before.
Thanks

As Jennifer said, it appears your hard drive has failed. Hopefully you have backup copies of any personal files, photos, etc.

To enter setup, press F2 as soon as you see the ASUS logo.

Your spec says XP but this is posted in the Win8 forum. Which is it?

Hi. I have the same problem, more or less.
At first, at start-up, I got automatic repair message and then diagnosing your PC message which had it stuck in a loop of doing nothing. After googling this and trying various options like F8,F12,Fwhatever it is stuck in "Aptio Setup Utility. I have tried F9 to restore to default and then F10 to save and exit which then brings me to the message mentioned above about insert proper boot media etc. There was no disc with the laptop when I bought it. Also in aptio setup utility I saw once "windows boot manager(drive not present) but I have not seen this since.
My head is fried at this stage as the laptop (Asus K55A) is only a few months old and from one person saying I should press this F# and someone else saying to press another F# key.
Each time I try to reboot it and it ends up back on the Aptio setup utility the boot order appears to have changed itself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You need to raise a new post on your issue for these reasons:

1. No two problems are ever quite alike.
2. Putting it on another thread causes confusion.
3. This post is old (July 11) so only the helpers who contributed are now likely to see it (we get alerted).

By raising a new post it will put your issue at the top of the pile and it will be seen by all helpers on the forum. Put it on the forum for your operating system (XP, Windows 7 or whatever).

Good luck
