Specs: Windows 8.1, not sure
Has anyone ever resolved the aptio setup utility loop? I woke up with a locked screen on my asus and when I rebooted I opened up in the aptio setup utility loop. Can anyone walk me through a fix?

From reading some of the google hits it looks like when a serious hardware problem occurs and the laptop is rebooted it goes by default to that utility. Some say you need to replace the hard drive but I think that's only one of many things that can cause it. Can you maneuver around in the aptio setup? If so does the hard drive show there?

You might temporarily disconnect the hard drive and try booting from a cd or dvd. If that goes OK it may mean the drive is at fault.

Other possibilities are a buggy bios update:

or changing some bios settings:

I assume you have an asus as those seem to be the only ones with that problem.
