Ummm, isn't it Shift + 2, just like any other keyboard?

Thanks for that, riider. I've been tearing my hair out here. Had been using shift plus the @ key which is what I've always used on my old keyboard.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the box, as you can see !!!

What language/region is your keyboard set to? The @ can move about a little depending on which keyboard layout/region etc. it's set to.

The UK and USA keyboards have some minor differences in layout.

trvlr is spot on. The @ sign in a strange place is definitely a keyboard setting issue and commonly USA -v-UK. To fix it so that it shows in the right place, go to "Control Panel > Region and languages > Keyboard and Languages tab > Change keyboards". Set to the appropriate language.

Better also left click the clock (bottom right of taskbar), select "Change date and time settings" > Time Zone button. Make sure that is right too.

EDIT: The above is based on Windows 7 as per your posted spec. As you have posted on Windows 8 forum, if it's for Win 8 or 8.1 this is what you do instead:
Right click the little Window at bottom left of taskbar. Go to "Control Panel > Language" and select from there. The time zone info already given still applies.

Tip for the future, always mention in the initial post if the computer you mean is not as per spec. I know it was posted on Windows 8 but folk mis-post around here all the times so we can never be sure.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
