How do I revert my computer from Windows 8 back to Windows 7

July 24, 2018 at 11:19:56
Specs: Windows 8 Pro, AMD Phenon Quad / 16 Gigs
I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro X64 to Windows 8 Pro in preparation for Windows 10, but can't upgrade to neither Windows 10 nor Windows 8.1. The system tries but fails at "First Boot" I do think that Windows 8 is the 'culprit'! Thank you in advance for any and all considerations.

You're going to have to explain how you went from Win7 to Win8, then we can tell you how to back out of it. System specs or make/model of your computer would also be helpful.

I don't know why you would even want Win8 or Win10, but you do not have to upgrade in succession. You can upgrade directly from Win7 to Win10, although once again, I don't know why you would.

What are you using to "upgrade" to Win 10?

It may still be possible to upgrade for free:

Greetings, Rider! Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. I apologize for not getting back to you earlier, but I had to work a double shift at work yesterday! As for the upgrade, years ago I purchased 3 copies of Windows 8, but had only used one on a friend's computer. This computer is a self-build, and up to this point I've had no problems, but I wanted to try to upgrade going through Windows 8! The computer has a Biostar motherboard (socket AM3) with a 1 terabyte HD, 16 gigs of ram, and a Quad-core Phenom II cpu 2.95 gigahertz with Bus clock at 200 megahertz. Hope this helps, and once again, thank you for your input.

What Windows 8 version you have? Windows 8 (core), Win 8 Pro, Win 8 Enterprise or Win 8 RT?
What is the error you see in windows 8 when trying to upgrade to 8.1??

You can download the installer for Windows 7, burn a DVD, and use the original key from the sticker on the machine:

Greetings, Everyone. Well, I got so frustrated with trying to upgrade my computer that I put it on the back burner! But, today I SUCCEEDED!!! I saw a former student of mine and he gave me some great advice.
He told me to unplug all external USB devices, and even those plugged into the motherboard! Also, he said to uninstall all virus protection and malware software. He believed that based on the error that I kept receiving, that these might be affecting the installation each time the computer re-booted. I don't know if everything he advised me to do was the culprit, but 30 minutes ago it all worked out! I Do want to thank all who took the time to give me some council on the matter. Best, everyone!
