Solved How do I restore my laptop to factory defaults?

July 9, 2015 at 13:54:31
Specs: Acer Aspire V3-551-7469
When I start up my laptop, Windows or the start menu do not show upon startup. I can access Task Manager when performing Ctrl Alt Del, however when I attempt to access the Control Panel through task manager an error comes up " Server execution failed."

You will need a Start-up disk for your machine. Most new laptops now do not come with start-up DVDs, but they do give you the option of creating one. if you have a Start-up DVD disk you can put it in the DVD player and set the BIOS to boot from the DVD. You should get the option to format the drive and re-install Windows X. If you do not have a start-up DVD you could try Acer technical support and try getting a replacement.

If Acer wants too much money for a replacement DVD(depends on if the warranty is expired), then you might have to buy a copy of Windows and perform a fresh install. It will not be the "Acer factory defaults", but it WILL be a full, licensed copy of Windows without all of the Acer proprietary software.

I lost a hard drive due to a virus on my HP Pavilion notebook with Windows 8. HP wanted more than what I could get a new copy of Windows for. Well I bought a new HD and just installed Linux. I have been running Linux on virtual machines for a while anyway so the transition was not difficult for me.

Good Luck
