Solved How do add file extensions to many files at once?

Specs: Windows 7
I have a folder with many files, all with no extension. Is there an easy way to append a file extention to them all? I have limited to no bat file experience.

Are you saying, that when you double click on them, they don't open?

Yes, that is correct. I've been told they are tiff files, and I can open them if I first rename and add the tiff extension.

Except for program files, extensions aren't needed. They are only there to help you and/or the OS, to know what program they are supposed to be opened with.

If the file can't be read by the program you try to open them with (have the wrong format), you will either get an error message or the file will show jibberish.

To rename then, batch isn't needed only the command prompt command REN.

REN *. *.XXX [notice the space after the first dot]

Probably find the extension is hidden.

Hover the mouse over the file or right click on it & select properties & you will see what sort of file it is.

Confirm for me please.

Here's another useful trick: Click on Windows Explorer (or "My Computer") press the "Alt" key to show the toolbar. Under "Tools" select "Folder Options" now select the "View" tab, Look for "Hide Extensions for known File Types" and untick the box. Your file extensions will always be shown when you open Explorer.
