gateway desktop wont boot up

Specs: Windows 8
new gateway desktop-when i turn on the computer it goes to preparing automatic repair and never does anything else

If it's new - as in just bought from Gateway or someone (Gateway authorised dealer/reseller) selling Gateway kit - then is it not under warranty? If so then perhaps invoke the warranty and support for which you have paid as part of the purchase price? All new computers have some degree of warranty and free tech support...?

well its a year and a half old so I guess its oldit has worked well until a few mornings ago when I turn the computer onand never booted up so when I tried to reboot but when preparing automatic repair came on the screenI don't know which t 2 press 4 safe mode on rebootI just need to get a couple of things off of it and then I will take a sledgehammer to itthank you so much for your input

Try booting into Safe-mode first... Then post back with results... A sledghammer is really a very serious threat to an innocent piece of kit...

Incidentally do you have "any" disks that came with Gateway; or did it arrive preconfigured and with a recovery partition included?

I ask as there may be assorted workable/viable options to pursue before finally attacking with a sledgehammer...
