Firefox 29.0.1 consuming too much memory

June 7, 2014 at 09:43:23
Specs: Windows 8.1, Pentium D 3.4 GHz / 2 GB DDR 2
Specs
Pentium D 3.4 Ghz,
DDR2 2 GB,
250 GB SATA with two partitions (windows and all applications partition: 18 GB free of 42 GB, other partition: 13 GB free of 190 GB)
Windows 8.1 Ent 64 bit,
Firefox 29.0.1 with plugins http://i.imgur.com/0tFbX0Q.jpg and extensions http://i.imgur.com/hQ3H7d0.jpg

Firefox is consuming too much memory. Check http://i.imgur.com/DL4GGME.jpg with one tab opened i.e. Google search. Sometimes it reaches to this http://i.imgur.com/xp39XvZ.jpg

While IE or Chrome does not take too much memory. I don’t know the exact time I am facing this issue. I think this problem occurs in latest versions. May be v24 or newer.

Kindly help

200MB plus used by a browser isn't unusual, the amount will depend on the page you have open. I'm currently using IE11 but I just checked Firefox on my system (I'm running Win7 64-bit with 6GB RAM) & it uses approx 90MB when I open to my homepage (Google.com). I opened Computing.net & came to this post, it jumped to 138MB. Going to Foxnews.com caused it to jump to 198MB. BTW, IE11 is using 228MB with only this page open.

I really don't see a problem other than you're running Win8.1 64-bit on an outdated system with only 2GB RAM (which is the minimum for 64-bit) plus you have a hard drive that's almost full. I suggest you add more RAM & rethink your partitioning strategy.

I get similar figures for Firefox - no issues, seems it's quite normal.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

If you disable all the plugins/extensions how much memory does firefox use?

Another example I guess of Senator Fritz Hollings' economic thoughts, "There's too much consumin' going on out there."

I have found a faulty extension Adblock Plus, which is consuming too much memory.
If I disable all plugins It consumes 70 MB.

Apart from it, Firefox is a more memory consumer. I have IE 11 with only one tab open consuming 19 MB.

Pity because Adblock Plus is very good. Maybe your rig could take a little more RAM or some other background program can be stopped.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I'm curious why you are running a 64-bit OS on an old system with just 2GB RAM? 32-bit would have been the way to go unless you plan on upgrading to 4GB+ in the near future?
