errors 1009 and 2044

August 24, 2015 at 08:55:37
Specs: Windows 8.0
In the upper left hand corner of the screen, error messages 1009 and 2044 keep popping up and I have to click on dismiss or continue to get the box to disappear.
Can anyone help me get rid of this pop up box?
Thanks.

John

Looks like this could be a tricky one. When do you get this, after starting Windows, when running your browser, or when running a video, etc?

If it is fairly recent it could be worth running System Restore (the Windows one NOT factory restore), choosing a date before the problem came along. It will keep your own stuff.

Another possibility is to uninstall and reinstall Flash.

If it's when using your browser, let us know what browser you are using. It could be worth trying an alternative one just to prove whether or not it is a browser issue.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks for your reply.

am using firefox this morning, and am not getting the pop up error messages. However, when i try and go to earthlink, i get the message - this connection is untrusted. I click on - add exception - but still get the message the next time I try and go to earthlink.
Any ideas on that one?

Two things:

To see if you can sort Internet Explorer do the Reset:
"IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button".
You will lose your add-on's but they soon come back with usage.

The second thing is that it would be worth a quick malware check and these two small freebies often unearth what your Anti-Virus can miss:

AdwCleaner:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Cleaning" button.

MalwareBytes:
http://filehippo.com/download_malwa...
(green Download button top right - not anything else on the page)
Install and Run the program but before doing its Scan go to "Settings > Detection and Protection" and put a checkmark in "Scan for rootkits". Quarantine anything it finds.

If either find anything please copy/paste the logs on here so that we can decide whether that avenue is worth pursuing further.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
