I don't believe that is what it said on the screen. I think it was this:
“Your PC will restart in 2 days to finish installing Important updates”.

That is quite different and it doesn't mean you have to wait two days before you can use your computer.

If the link in #1 does not fix the problem then tell us what happens when you try to power up?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

After the statement on the computer, it shut down. When I now hit the power button, nothing happens as if the computer is dead.

Absolutely nothing happens at all - nothing whatever on the screen?
I've never known an update manage that however much it screws up.

First of all remove the power from the domestic supply, take out the battery then hold the power off/on button for about 20 seconds. Put it back together and see if that helps.

Makes me think some hardware fault came along by coincidence (power supply unit maybe) at a time when it was updating.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Sorry, I keep getting called away. Tried removal of power and held button. It did nothing. Computer is only about 3 weeks old.

Wow, only three weeks. Frankly if it is totally as dead as a dodo - nothing whatever happening and nothing ever appearing on the screen, then I would take it back. Probably best not mention the update because if it really is as bad as that it is sure to be a hardware fault. It might have just happened to die during updates.

If it is not totally dead then let us know exactly what it does and what you see.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I agree with Derek, windows 8 just changed its wording, restart in two days is when the system will restart automatically, if after an update you want to restart you can. Then you won't have to worry about the automatic restart.

Thanks for trying to help. I just packed it up and sent it to a repair facility since it is under warranty
